Rånäs Iron Works is Uppland’s most southerly Walloon works. The families Oxenstierna, Stenbock and Reuterskiöld have operated here since the 1300s. The works belonged to the Oxentiernas of Mörby Castle for a large part of the 1500s and 1600s. A part of the works in Gimo was movedhere in 1774 and management in Rånäs continued until 1894.
The living quarters can be found along the street. Rånäs Castle was built by Axel Didrik Reuterskiöld from 1833-1844. The castle was designed by Per Axel Nyström in the late Empire style with strong Italian influences. Today Rånäs Castle is an attractive conference centre and historic hotel. Why not follow the signposted culture trail through the works? More information is available in the castle reception, 0175-747 00.
