Roslagen’s well-preserved Walloon works have a unique story to tell about the industry of the area. All the natural resources required were available here when the iron works was established in the 17th century. The Walloons were recruited from what is now Belgium for their professional skills, and the bar iron from the Walloon works was world leading in its quality. Today, the works are a unique destination for visitors, and some of the works are still world leaders in the metal industry.
Wira, which is not a Wallonian works, became Sweden’s first swordsmith’s with the exclusive right to produce rapiers for the Swedish crown. The idyllic works environments with their museums, guided tours, cultural events, art, food and accommodation are nowadays extremely attractive to visitors.
