Norrtälje

norrtalje

Roslagen’s principal town is Norrtälje, an idyllic little town with authentic
houses with a medieval road network. There are many quaint shops,
restaurants and cafés, art galleries, museums and exciting events – all
year round! Don’t miss Collin’s Ostbod offering wonderful cheeses,
be inspired by the interior design shops and visit a cozy café. Here
you’ll find, “En liten smula”, which has been voted Sweden's best café!
The town’s restaurants often feature live jazz and blues music. The
whole town swings during Norrtälje’s Jazz Days during the summer!

Norrtälje was founded in 1622 by Gustav II Adolf. Major sections
of the town were burned down by the invading Russians in 1719.
Wallinska gårdarna is an estate built in the 1730s near Lilla Torget
square and Rådhuset (the town hall) on Stora Torget square. In the
middle of the 1800s, Norrtälje was one of the Baltic Sea’s most popular
spa resorts – known for its health giving mud. Come along on one of
the guided walks and learn more!

Why not visit Norrtälje's excellent art gallery, or look around Roslagen
museum or visit Pythagoras Industrial Museum including the Children's
Workshop - a new addition from the summer of 2007! At Södra Bergen
there is a great view of the town below. The Norrtälje river flows through
the middle of town and teems with sea trout for fly-fishing! Stroll along
the river to Societetsparken. Along the quay you’ll find the S/S Norrtelje.
Follow the water along Havspiren out to Kärleksudden with its bathing
area and café. Norrtälje has hotels, cabin camping, summer youth hostels
and a guest harbor. The Stockholm city bus system runs regularly
between Norrtälje and downtown Stockholm.
